Study Tips to Encourage Your Personal Walk with the Lord
1. Study the Bible at least a little bit every day
2. Make up your mind to actually STUDY the Bible and not simply read it
3. Study the Bible topically
4. Study the Bible systematically
5. Be thorough and exact
6. Study the Bible as it is: The Word of God
7. Study the Bible prayerfully
8. Look for "the things concerning Christ in all scriptures"
9. Store away the scripture in your heart and mind
10. Always remember to keep the scripture in it's original context. This means that we need to understand who the writer was writing to, why he was writing the letter, and how would this apply to us today.

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)

Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth
It is important for us as believers to ensure that we are not taking the Word of God out of context when we study. There are several things we can do to ensure that we are on track and not getting into error.

1. Do not take a single isolated scripture and build a large spiritual insight into it
2. Look for other places in the bible where the topic is also discussed
3. Read the scriptures before and after the scripture at hand to see what the context of that scripture is
4. Find out what other believers throughout the ages have had to say about the subject
5. Use the Greek and Hebrew concordance to look up the meaning of specific words within scripture
          a. Cross reference those words with the same words in other scriptures to see how they are used
                1. What similarities exist between the scriptures?

2. Are there any grey areas?
                3. Is it unclear?
6. Use commentaries to gain additional insight
7. Talk with your Pastor
